Austrian Airlines has announced its plans to expand its North American offering to include five-weekly flights to Miami, as well as additional flights to destinations in Europe.
From October 16, 2015, Austrian Airlines will operate a Boeing 777 aircraft on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to the Floridian city, marking the airline’s sixth North American destination in addition to its existing flights to New York, Newark, Washington, Chicago and Toronto.
“The strong expansion to North America in recent years was a complete success. With Miami we are once again adding a new long-haul destination, consistently continuing with our business strategy” said Chief Commercial Officer, Andreas Otto.
The flights will depart the Austrian capital at 09:55am, arriving into Miami International at 15:20pm, while the return flight will depart Miami at 17:10pm, arriving into Vienna at 08:50am (+1 day).
It will be the only current direct link between the two cities, and will be the first time Austrian Airlines has served Miami International Airport.
Austrian’s flag carrier has also announced plans to expand its offering to European tourist destinations, with the introduction of flights to the Spanish Balearic island of Menorca.
From June 20, 2015, the airline will offer a weekly departure every Saturday to Menorca which means in addition to Mallorca and Ibiza, Austrian now offers flight service to all three Balearic Islands. The route will be operated with Dash-8 Q400 aircraft, on a seasonal basis until September 12, 2015 this year.
“We are expanding our offering to tourist destinations in both the medium-haul and long-haul segments. In the summer we are increasingly focusing on Spain alongside Turkey and Greece with Austrian myHoliday. We are putting an emphasis on sunny long-haul tourist destinations in the winter season featuring Mauritius and now flights to Miami,” added Otto.
Austrian Airlines is expanding its route network to a total of eight destinations in Spain. In addition to Menorca, Mallorca and Ibiza, Austrian Airlines now flies to Barcelona and the Canary Islands of Las Palmas, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
Frequencies to Naples and Lamezia Terme in Italy will be increased, with two additional direct weekly flights to Naples for a total of three and one additional flight to Lamezia Terme for a total of two flights per week.
