Irish regional carrier CityJet has announced the launch of a new seasonal Summer 2013 link between Dublin Airport and Aeroport Brest Bretagne in the Finistère département in Brittany in northwestern France. The weekly Saturday service will operate from June 29, 2013 until August 31, 2013 using a 95-seat Avro RJ85 and has been primarily scheduled to benefit Dublin-based leisure travelers looking to visit the Brittany region for extended stays during the summer months.
“Brest is a popular summer destination, so we are delighted to be able to offer Dublin based passengers’ direct access to the heart of this stunning region - one of France’s best-loved destinations,” said Christine Ourmières, Chief Executive Officer, CityJet. “Our service from Dublin offers a convenient schedule for families enjoying longer summer holidays during the school break period or those visiting their second home in Brittany.”
CityJet already has experience of the Brest market and has been offering a seasonal link from its main operating base at London City Airport in the UK since last year using a 50-seat Fokker 50 turboprop. The airline offered flights between March and October and will continue this schedule during the current year, including additional flights during the peak travel months between June and August.
Brest is a charming city located on the western tip of Brittany, a large peninsula bordered by the English Channel and the Atlantic and the city is nestled in one of France’s most beautiful natural harbors, a popular holiday destination for UK and Irish travelers. Wider attractions across Brittany include long sandy beaches, rugged cliffs, an abundance of wildlife and attractive landscapes.
CityJet is currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of Air France but its long-term future aligned to the French flag carrier is unclear as it has not been included within the airline’s regional restructuring. It is understood that Air France would consider offers for the carrier and for it to break away under independent ownership, albeit potentially still remaining an operational partner.
The CityJet network covers 22 European destinations across Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the UK. Although it has had a recent focus on growing in the German market, CityJet remains an extremely important provider of travel to France, offering services for business and leisure travellers to Paris and other key locations including Avignon, Brive, Deauville, Nantes, Pau and Toulon.
