Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) in Utah and Delta Air Lines opened the remaining 13 gates of SLC’s Concourse A, finishing a 22-gate concourse completely controlled by Delta.

The initial five gates of the 900,000-ft.2 Concourse A were opened in May, with four more going online in August. The final 13 gates give Delta, which has a hub at SLC and is by far the airport’s leading carrier, an even more solidified position at the airport.

Delta bases 5,400 employees at SLC and now controls 50 gates at the airport. The airline currently handles around 30,000 passengers daily at SLC with 237 peak-day flights to 88 destinations.

“All flights operating from Concourse A will now board and deplane via jet bridges, eliminating bus operations to remote hardstands,” the airline says in a statement.

“The completion of Concourse A comes just ahead of what we anticipate will be a busy holiday and ski travel season,” adds Adam Ryan, Delta’s managing director of SLC operations.

SLC Executive Director Bill Wyatt says the full opening of Concourse A “highlights another remarkable milestone” in SLC’s modernization efforts, noting workers “spent numerous days and nights to ensure these gates and concessions would open [on Oct. 31].”

The airport says a dozen new concessions have opened along with the new gates.
