Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) has revealed its first route announcement of the year in conjunction with easyJet, by adding Zante to the schedule.
The new route will be the 30th operated by easyJet from Liverpool, and will complement the low-cost carrier’s existing route to Rhodes.
easyJet is the biggest operator by passenger numbers at Liverpool, also offering flights to destinations in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Greece and Turkey.
The flights will operate on a weekly basis, commencing on April 23, 2015, departing every Thursday.
Mark Povall, director of air service development for LJLA, said: ”Zante is a summer holiday destination that is popular with passengers from across the region and one that we know will do well from Liverpool.
Zante, or Zakynthos, is the most southerly of the Ionian Islands and one of the most popular Greek islands for holidaymakers.
Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK commercial manager, said: "We’re delighted to be adding Zakynthos to easyJet’s range of destinations from Liverpool. This announcement today highlights our commitment to providing affordable routes to summer destinations from Liverpool and we’re pleased to be able to strengthen our route network.
With the Great British Pound (GBP) reaching a new seven-year high against the Euro, it is an ideal time for UK holidaymakers to visit other European countries, getting about 10 percent more for their money compared to the same time last year.
"Our Greek routes are proving extremely popular for those who wish to get some easy and affordable summer sun, and we’re sure that this new route will be no exception," Ali Gayward added.
