African carrier Ethiopian Airlines has finalised preparations to resume services to Yaounde’s, Nsimalen International Airport from October 25, 2015. The capital of Cameroon, Yaounde is the second largest city in the country after the port city of Douala, a market already served by the East African carrier.
The Star Alliance member has been serving the Cameroon market since the early 1970s after first introducing flights to Douala in 1971 and has been offering uninterrupted service since 2003. The new four times weekly link to Yaounde will complement this route supporting local and transfer demand via its hub at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa.
"With this new service, our flights will facilitate a greater people-to-people, trade, investment and tourism movement between our two sisterly African countries and the entire flourishing continent,” said Tewolde Gebremariam, chief executive officer, Ethiopian Airlines Group.
The profitable African carrier has previously served Yaounde this decade but linked the city to Addis Ababa via Bangui and Lagos between February 2011 and September 2011 and via Bangui and Cotonou between October 2011 and January 2012. The new flights will be served with a mixture of direct services and links via Libreville in Gabon and will be flown using a Boeing 767-300.
