Malaysia Airlines has launched flights to its seventh and eighth destinations in India, and plans to open an additional route to the country in December.
The carrier last week kicked off service from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) to both Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport in Amritsar (ATQ) and Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (TRV). Both routes are being flown 2X-weekly with Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Batik Air Malaysia and AirAsia X both operate on the 2,309-nm (2,657-mi.) KUL-ATQ route.
In December, Malaysia Airlines will open flights between KUL and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad (AMD).
Malaysia Airlines CEO Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi says the carrier “places great importance on the Indian market, considering it a cornerstone of our strategic vision,” adding in a statement: “The expansion of our routes to India goes beyond mere connectivity, as this effort yields a range of positive outcomes, from driving economic growth, to boosting tourism, nurturing cultural exchange and facilitating global collaboration.”
Aside from the new destinations, Malaysia Airlines operates from KUL to the Indian cities of Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Mumbai and New Delhi.
