Meet The Winners: Vueling
Recognized for its excellent support to destination and airport partners, Vueling has committed to enduring long-term success by maintaining a resilient and sustainable network.
The airline accredits its clear strategic vision, long-term approach to partnerships, and proven results on sustainable growth to their achievements in network development. Vueling holds the top position of LCCs regarding longevity of routes, with more than 85% of new routes exceeding beyond the critical three-year mark, and a route duration average of 6.1 years. Working with its partners, it has successfully reduced seasonality and increased the use of underutilized airport infrastructure.
In addition to route development, Vueling strives to implement innovative ideas to ease passenger experience and meet developing needs. Having onboarded several initiatives, the airline strongly advocates to increase sustainability in the future of aviation.
As the first European LCC to partner with Wheeltug, Vueling’s aircraft saw the introduction of a device that allows it to move on the ground without starting the engines, therefore reducing CO2 emissions and noise. Vueling has also committed to using 10% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) by 2030, double of what will be required.
On winning the Airline Award category at the Routes Awards 2023 in Istanbul, Jordi Pla Pintre, Director of Network Strategy and Long-Term Planning at Vueling Airlines, says: “It’s a fantastic recognition for the team, not only for the network team but across commercial, marketing and operations. Everyone has worked extremely hard for this and I’m very proud of this award.”
Vueling has achieved a strong position at Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) with 46% share, connecting more than 90 destinations and channelling traffic from Europe to key international hubs.
