A US company that is aiming to fill the voids in the networks of the US majors and low-cost carriers has revealed Pittsburgh as its third destination market having launched operations earlier this month between Milwaukee and Indianapolis. OneJet’s innovative business model is based on creating a demand-responsive transportation network within the Eastern US in markets that lack nonstop service.
The Allegheny County Airport Authority has confirmed OneJet will introduce flights from Pittsburgh International Airport and Milwaukee from May 4, 2015 and Indianapolis from May 11, 2015. The links will be flown by OneJet’s regional operating partner, Pentastar Aviation, using 7-seat executive Hawker 400 jets.
The flights, which feature one-hour, gate-to-gate service, TSA PreCheck access for eligible customers and complimentary onboard amenities, will be offered four times weekly, Monday-Thursday and are mainly targeted at business travellers who value their time and the convenience of efficient direct flights.
“More than 27,000 people per year fly between Pittsburgh and Milwaukee, and nearly 15,000 fly between Pittsburgh and Indianapolis,” said Christina Cassotis, chief executive officer, Allegheny County Airport Authority. “We’re very pleased that OneJet will provide our community with these much-needed non-stop options.”
Both markets are currently not served directly from Pittsburgh but have seen recent scheduled operations. US Airways ended its flights between Pittsburgh and Indianapolis in January 2009, while Frontier Airlines ceased its flights between Pittsburgh and Milwaukee in January 2012.
“We’re excited about new opportunities for local business leaders and business growth that this new air service provides,” said Allegheny County Executive, Rich Fitzgerald. “OneJet has stepped up to fill a void in our community and in similar communities across the mid-Atlantic.”
OneJet’s innovative business model is based on creating a demand-responsive transportation network within the Eastern U.S. in markets that lack nonstop service. The company began operations between Milwaukee and Indianapolis on April 6, 2015 and is planning additional expansion in coming months with this latest announcement the next step in a multi-phase roll out the carrier plans over the coming months.
Cassotis said she is hopeful that the company may serve additional markets from Pittsburgh in the near future. “We think they have a business model that will be very successful in our region,” she said.
According to Lesley Conzelman, senior vice president, sales and distribution, OneJet, the company’s service will deliver a new level of simplicity and convenience for regional business travellers, with non-stop travel options easily accessible via existing booking tools and point of sale. The flights are available for booking via corporate or online travel agencies including American Express Global Business Travel, BCD Travel, Expedia, or Carlson Wagonlit Travel.
