Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) will receive a $6.4 million grant from the U.S. FAA for airfield work.
Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE), a regional airport in Allentown, Pennsylvania, will also receive FAA funding for infrastructure work.
The Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants were announced by U.S. Sens. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) and John Fetterman (D-Pa.).
According to a statement from the senators, PIT will primarily use the money to reconfigure an existing taxiway.
“Improving taxiways and overall safety and [other work aimed at] reducing emissions will make [PIT] safer and more efficient,” Casey says.
ABE, located about 70 miles from Philadelphia International Airport, will receive $5 million in AIP funds. The senators say the funding will be used to rehabilitate the airport’s runway.
