ROUTES AFRICA: Royal Air Maroc to Provide Mainland African Link to Tenerife

Moroccan carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is to provide the only scheduled link between the African mainland and Tenerife in the Spanish Canary Islands. The new route to Casablanca is the first of a number of services that Tenerife Tourism Corporation is exploring to enhance connectivity between the island and the African continent.

The geographic location of the Canary Islands means they are well positioned to boost air connectivity between Europe and Africa and perhaps act as a transit point to other markets. With strong leisure demand and therefore notable point-to-point demand, Tenerife Tourism Corporation believes it go on to secure a number of new routes into Africa and is understood to be very close to agreeing new air services into at least two further countries across North and West Africa.

The RAM link between Casablanca and Tenerife will be launched from the start of the winter schedule on October 29, 2013 and will operate on a three times weekly basis using an ATR 72 turboprop. Details of the flight were uploaded onto the GDS in the past week and we were delighted to confirm the news with Stephanie Wear Pintado, Economic Development Director, Tenerife Tourism Corporation during the recent Routes Africa forum in Kampala, Uganda.
