From the banks of Lake Victoria to the majestic Victoria Falls, Routes Africa has made the journey south in 2014 following last year's record event in Kampala, Uganda. Welcome to Zimbabwe, a country full of beauty situated on a high plateau in Southern Africa.
From the ancient architecture of Great Zimbabwe to the spectacle of modern buildings, Zimbabwe is a unique and fascinating tourist destination which is home to world heritage sites protected for posterity. The most famous is of course the majestic Victoria Falls and its thunderous cascading sheets of falling water that attracts visitors from across the world and which can be seen (and heard) from our event hotel.
Our hosts, the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe, have a great event planned as they showcase the destination and Victoria Falls International Airport, situated 21km south of the town. The facility provides easy access to Victoria Falls and is currently served by scheduled domestic and regional flights as well as charter links from various parts of the world.
A major infrastructure project at a total cost of $150 million is currently underway at the airport including construction of a new runway, international terminal building and control tower and is due for completion by December 2014.
The hosting of Routes Africa, the largest route development forum in the region, is a clear endorsement of the ambitions of the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe to attract new airlines into the country and improve connectivity in a continent in desperate need of better air links both internally and into other parts of the world.
In an interview with The HUB Daily, Hon. Dr. O. M. Mpofu (MP), Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, said: ”Routes Africa 2014 provides yet another platform for the aviation and tourism industry decision makers and players to meet and discuss opportunities on route development and destination showcasing and marketing. The hospitable Zimbabwean people, as well as the flora and fauna of Victoria Falls, promise to give you an experience of a lifetime."
