Pacific carrier Solomon Airlines has announced it will commence a new direct Honiara-Nadi service in the final quarter of this year, subject to government approval. The new link will operate on a weekly basis (Wednesdays from Honiara and Thursdays from Nadi) using its flagship Airbus A320 with effect from November 4, 2015.
The new service will build on the national carrier’s existing weekly Honiara - Nadi service which operates via Port Vila, Vanuatu, on Saturdays and returns to Honiara, again via Port Vila, on Sundays and continues a recent growth of Solomon Airlines’ international network in recent months, which saw a direct Sydney-Honiara service introduced in June.
Solomon Airlines’ General Manager Operations and Commercial, Gus Kraus said the commencement of the new Honiara-Nadi service held great significance for increased trade and business links between the two countries as well as a closer relationship with a key Melanesian neighbour.
“As importantly, this new direct service opens up even more opportunity for international travellers to make seamless connections via Fiji into the Solomon Islands, and particularly from North America and northern Asia. This new service represents yet another major benchmark for Solomon Airlines in a very proud 53-year history,” he said.
Solomon Airlines remains the market leader in both the Domestic and International sectors of aviation in the Solomon Islands. Initially established in 1962 when a Mr Laurie Crowly founded a small charter company called Megapode Airways, the airline became government-controlled in the mid-1980s.
