Sri Lankan government wants SriLankan Airlines to fly to Frankfurt and/or Paris
Sri Lankan tourism and aviation state minister Arundika Fernando said SriLankan Airlines has been asked by the government to open routes to Frankfurt and/or Paris, indicating the Sri Lankan government would be willing to subsidize such a route.
The news was first reported by Daily FT, an English language newspaper published in Sri Lanka.
“We have started discussions with the national carrier on the need to resume services to either Frankfurt in Germany and/or Paris in France. These are hubs for the rest of Europe, and direct flights will boost arrivals,” Fernando said.
SriLankan Airlines, a oneworld member, currently only flies to one airport in Europe, London Heathrow.
