Startup BermudAir is now serving the three initial U.S. destinations in its route network, with service to Fort Lauderdale, Florida recently added to two northeast U.S. routes from Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA).
Flights between BDA and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), which started in late September, are being operated 6X-weekly. Service to Westchester County Airport (HBN) in New York is being flown 12X-weekly. Flights between BDA and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) are being operated 6X-weekly.
The boutique all-business class carrier catering to high-end passengers is flying all services with Embraer E175 aircraft. From Nov. 1, the airline will offer a 30-seat, 1x1 configuration with a privacy wall. A delay in seat deliveries has led the airline to initially operate 88-seat E175s with only 44-seats sold, giving all passengers aisle access.
The Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority granted an air operator’s certificate (AOC) to BermudAir in July and the carrier started flights on Aug. 31 from BDA to HNB and BOS. It is the first locally established airline to be launched in Bermuda’s history.
FLL is “pleased to be the first Florida destination for the boutique airline as it launches service to the United States,” Airport Director Mark Gale says in a statement. “Bermuda ... will be a new nonstop destination for FLL travelers as our existing commercial carriers do not currently offer scheduled air service.”
BermudAir founder and CEO Adam Scott says the airline aims to fill “service gaps” with “well-timed, traveler-centric, stress-free flights” connecting Bermuda to U.S. cities.
BermudAir flights have Wi-Fi at no additional cost and passengers are able to check “at least one complimentary checked bag–or more, depending on fare,” according to the airline. Passengers are served “freshly prepared light meals and beverage selections from local partners on the island,” the carrier says.
