U.S. startup Breeze Airways will launch nine routes from Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers, an expansion that will grow the airline’s roster of destinations served from the airport to 13.
Breeze plans to open the routes in November, to be operated on a seasonal basis into the 2024 spring. “With fall and winter quickly approaching, we know many people from the [U.S.] northeast and midwest will be looking to travel to the great beaches and warmer weather Fort Myers has to offer,” Breeze CEO David Neeleman, who founded the carrier in 2021, says in a statement.
From Nov. 2, the airline will start service from RSW to New Orleans and Norfolk, Virginia, flying both routes 2X-weekly. Neither route is currently operated by any carrier.
From Nov. 15, the airline will commence flights from Fort Myers to both Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) and Richmond, the capital of Virginia, which marks a new destination for RSW. That route will be operated 2X-weekly, while the RSW-PIT service will be flown 4X-weekly.
From Nov. 16, the airline will begin operating flights from Fort Myers to Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) in Ohio. The RSW-CAK route, not currently served by any airline, will be flown 3X-weekly. On the same date, Breeze will also start flying from RSW to Columbus, the capital of Ohio, 3X-weekly, as well as 2X-weekly flights to Louisville, Kentucky.
From Nov. 17, the airline will become the only airline connecting Fort Myers and Syracuse, New York, flying the route 2X-weekly. Also on that date, Breeze will open 2X-weekly service between RSW and Raleigh-Durham International Airport, North Carolina.
Breeze operates a mix of Airbus A220 aircraft and Embraer 190/195 aircraft.
“We are extremely pleased about Breeze Airways announcing nine new nonstop cities at Southwest Florida International Airport,” RSW Executive Director Ben Siegel says. “Breeze will be significantly increasing their presence at RSW this November, including five markets not currently being served.”
Breeze is already flying to four markets from Fort Myers: Charleston, South Carolina; Hartford, Connecticut; Las Vegas; and Providence, Rhode Island.
The new services will bring to 58 the total number of routes Breeze operates to and from Florida.
