TAM Airlines is continuing its service expansion at Brasilia, as it opens reservation for its planned service to Buenos Aires Ezeiza.
The airline will being four-weekly flights from July 3, 2015 on board Airbus A320 aircraft, departing the Brazilian capital at 21:15pm on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, arriving into Buenos Aires at 01:10am. The return service will depart the Argentinean capital at 05:15am, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, arriving back into Brasilia at 08:47am.
TAM Airlines will be in direct competition on the route with Aerolineas Argentinas, as well as between the Argentinean capital and Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Recife.
Meanwhile, earlier this month LATAM Airlines announced that it had started feasibility studies to develop the first international and domestic hub in the Northeast of Brazil.
Considering three possible cities, Fortaleza, Natal and Recife, the main objective is to expand LATAMs operations between Europe and South America.
The initiative will improve connectivity for the northern part of Brazil, with domestic carriers currently focusing on the South and Southeast of Brazil.
“The project will expand the capillarity of the Group’s in Brazil, South America, and internationally, particularly by increasing the number of destinations in Europe. It will also reaffirm the Group’s leadership in Latin America, increase connectivity options for customers and optimize coverage of passenger and cargo flows between Brazil and other markets,” said Claudia Sender, CEO of TAM S.A. and of TAM Linhas Aereas.
The association of LAN and TAM will promote options for the strengthening and expansion of the carriers in the group, based on joint planning efforts.
The new hub will be served with the group’s current fleet plan, and the host city is expected to be chosen by the end of 2015. Implementation of the hub will mean that operations aren’t expected to start until December 2016.
Guarulhos Airport in Sao Paulo has been chosen as the main international hub for LATAM Airlines Group, and the Northeast hub will strategically complement the Group’s objectives, offering significantly shorter flights between Brazil and Europe in comparison to Southern Brazil. As well as better connections, this will enable LATAM to utilize aircraft more efficiently and increase productivity.
