American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines have moved quickly to add nonstop flights from South Carolina to New Orleans to enable fans of the Clemson University football team to travel to the Jan. 13 US national collegiate championship game. Clemson is set to square off against Louisiana State University.
According to a statement by the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP), American will add a Boeing 737-800 on the GSP-New Orleans (MSY) route, with service to MSY operating on Jan. 11 and return service on Jan. 14. Delta will fly an Airbus A321 on the route, with outbound service on Jan. 11 and return service on Jan. 14. United will offer an Embraer E-175 flight from GSP to MSY on Jan. 11 and a 737-800 flight on the route on Jan. 12. A United 737-900 return flight will occur on Jan. 14.
Southwest Airlines already offers connecting service on the route, the airport noted.
