Guy is a Senior Editor for Aviation Week, based in Colorado Springs. Before joining Aviation Week in 2007, Guy was with Flight International, first as technical editor based in the U.K. and most recently as U.S. West Coast editor. Before joining Flight, he was London correspondent for Interavia, part of Jane's Information Group.
In 2013 the Jesse H. Neal award for Best Technical Content was awarded to Guy Norris and Graham Warwick for their Advanced Propulsion feature. He received the 2015 Lauren D. Lyman Award for outstanding achievement in aerospace communications. And in 2018 he was awarded Technology Writer of the Year by the judges of the Aerospace Media Awards.
Guy is also a multiple winner of the Royal Aeronautical Society Aerospace Journalist of the Year Award in the Air Transport, Propulsion and Systems/Technology categories, and in 2006 he received the Royal Aeronautical Society Decade of Excellence Award for sustained achievement in aerospace journalism.
Amongst other works Guy has authored the aerospace section of a science encyclopedia and co-authored, and produced an educational aviation CD-ROM. Guy has also authored more than a dozen books on the histories of Airbus, Boeing and other airframe manufacturers.
Orbital Sciences Corp. says the planned launch its first Cygnus spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS) on a demonstration mission for NASA has been pushed back one day due to weather and the need to replace an inoperative cable.
An Australian hypersonic scramjet technology demonstrator is expected to be launched from the Andøya Rocket Range in Norway as early as Sept. 17. The Scramspace (Scramjet-based Access-to-Space Systems) vehicle will test an array of hypersonic-propulsion technologies as well as being designed to foster a new generation of Australian hypersonic specialists. The $12.9 million, three-year research project is led by the University of Queensland and builds on Australia’s lead in air-breathing hypersonics as part of the country’s emerging national space policy.
Boeing late yesterday completed initial taxi tests of the 787-9 in preparation for a first flight, which could happen today. “We have successfully completed a number of key lead-up milestones in recent weeks. We’re on track for first flight in the coming days, as early as Tuesday, Sept. 17,” the manufacturer says. Test engineers this weekend were evaluating the avionics, primary flight control system, engines and other systems on ZB001, the first aircraft, in preparation of high-speed taxi tests. The initial gauntlet tests began around Sept. 10.
