Based in Washington, Jen manages Aviation Week’s worldwide defense, space and security coverage.
Prior to taking on her current role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
In late 2012, Dassault Aviation and the French defense armaments agency (DGA) made history, sending Neuron, Europe's first stealthy unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) into flight. The feat, which required political finesse and helped establish Europe as a place for unmanned technology, earned the Neuron team Aviation Week's 2014 Defense Laureate.
‘WAKE UP CALL’: Referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s move to annex the Crimean Peninsula as a “wake up call,” NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen is calling on Europe to increase defense spending – particularly in areas such as missile defense, cyber and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. “Developments in Ukraine are a stark reminder that security in Europe cannot be taken for granted,” Rasmussen said at the Brookings Institution.
The political situation in the Ukraine may force the U.S. to rethink its airborne supply route into Afghanistan, as well as Russian-built rocket engines used for space launches, Pentagon leaders say.
