Based in Washington, Jen manages Aviation Week’s worldwide defense, space and security coverage.
Prior to taking on her current role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
A divided Congress has generated what is likely to be a contentious conference to iron out differences between the Democratic and Republican versions of the NASA reauthorization bill. In another party-line vote, the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee adopted its version of the three-year, $18-billion-plus annual NASA spending plan that was shot down in the Republican-controlled House Science, Space and Technology panel last month (AW&ST July 22, p. 21).
Lawmakers drifted away from Washington for their summer vacations, leaving the fate of the FAA's NextGen and numerous other aerospace programs up in the air.
At this time of year, the Pentagon is always wrangling over future budgets. But this year, the ongoing budget indecision is forcing a more open discussion. The Pentagon outlined on July 31 the findings of its Strategic Choices Management Review (SCMR), which are best viewed as the parameters for negotiations on its fiscal 2015-19 budgets.
