Prior to taking on her current role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
U.S. administration officials are preparing to endorse a report that calls for revisions to the nation’s nuclear strategy and discusses the possibility of a one-third reduction to the arsenal, according to the Center for Public Integrity. The document does not call for immediate changes to the nuclear force; rather officials are seeking to negotiate further reductions to nuclear weapons with Russia. It also notes that President Barack Obama may preview the issue during his Feb. 12 State of the Union Address.
The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee is defending former Sen. Chuck Hagel’s (R-Neb.) right to decline to respond to demands for financial disclosures, saying they go “far beyond the financial disclosure required of previous secretaries of defense.” Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) had hoped to vote last week on Hagel’s nomination to lead the Pentagon, but Levin pushed off the vote to provide time to respond a request for information submitted by Republicans.
NTSB Chairman Deborah Hersman has risen to the top of the list of contenders to replace Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. Hersman has an important source of support in Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), chairman of the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee. She served as a staff member on the panel from 1999 to 2004, and before that worked for West Virginia Democrat Rep. Bob Wise. Rep. Tom Latham (R-Iowa), chairman of the House Appropriations aviation subcommittee, says, “All I’ve heard are good things about her.”
