Prior to taking on her current role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
President Barack Obama, expected to soon begin announcing new members of his Cabinet, will be selecting the leader of the world's largest bureaucracy and filling one of the toughest jobs in the U.S. At least four names are being floated as replacements for Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, and each is being greeted by defense industry officials with degrees of dismay.
As North Korea prepares to launch a satellite, over the objections of the U.S. and the United Nations, a test of the missile-defense system designed to protect the U.S. against an attack from the Korean peninsula was delayed again. The Defense Department is moving assets into the Pacific region to monitor North Korea's launch, which Pyongyang says is slated to take place Dec. 10-22. Assets include Navy destroyers as well as intelligence-collecting aircraft outfitted to detect a launch and characterize the missile's capability once lofted.
SHIFTING SEATS: Sen. Jim DeMint (S.C.), who was preparing to lead Republicans on the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, now plans to leave the Senate in January. That leaves the committee in need of a ranking member. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), is next in line. “There is a process for these assignments that will play out, and I look forward to discussing this development with my colleagues on the Commerce Committee,” Thune says in a statement. Thune leads the aviation subcommittee. DeMint was in line to replace Sen.
