Based in Washington, Jen manages Aviation Week’s worldwide defense, space and security coverage.
Prior to taking on her current role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) is making yet another run at trying to force the U.S. to sell 66 F-16 C/D multi-role fighter aircraft to Taiwan. Cornyn, along with Sens. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) and Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), have teamed up for a third attempt to make the sale of the Lockheed Martin fighters and hope to include it in the fiscal 2013 defense authorization bill being considered this week on the Senate floor.
The incoming chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has a long list of priorities for the next congressional session, but aviation is not among them. Given that the FAA Modernization and Reform Act that passed early this year will last for four years, Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) says he will focus his energy largely on highways, railways and ports.
After returning from the presidential campaign trail, former vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has received a waiver to continue as chairman of the House Budget Committee. Term limits have opened chairmanships on other key aerospace and defense committees, and the Republican Steering Committee is recommending a number of changes. Those were due to be voted on by House Republicans Nov. 28.
