Based in Washington, Jen manages Aviation Week’s worldwide defense, space and security coverage.
Prior to taking on her current role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
Senators approved draft legislation April 17 that rejects parts of the president’s budget request for NASA, cutting nearly $300 million from the development of commercial crew vehicles. The fiscal 2013 spending bill passed by the Senate Appropriations commerce, justice, and science subcommittee adds back close to $200 million for the heavy-lift Space Launch System (SLS), a priority for Republicans Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (Texas) and Sen. Richard Shelby (Ala.).
Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) says House Republican lawmakers may be nearing a deal to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im Bank). “I think we’re closer to a resolution than the rhetoric from the other side … might lead you to believe,” Schumer said during an April 17 Senate Banking Committee hearing describing the need of the marketplace to keep the bank in business. The charter for the bank that helps finance the export of U.S.-made goods abroad expires May 31, though it could reach its lending cap early in May.
