Prior to taking on her current role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.

Industry may be ready to sell UAVs for civilian use within the U.S., but that does not mean the machinery of government is prepared to regulate them. The agency is trying to ensure safety of the vehicles, which can be difficult for larger aircraft to see. But the process has been slow and already delayed. The FAA was expected to release its notice of proposed rulemaking for small UAVs this month; now the notice is supposed to come sometime during the spring, according to FAA spokeswoman Alison Duquette.

The next is expected in about two weeks — shortly after President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address — and should unveil broad programmatic changes. The administration’s budget release, which would contain specific dollar amounts, should follow shortly behind. The budget release is traditionally held on the first Monday of February, but it has not been formally scheduled yet this year.
