Prior to taking on her current role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
The Senate Appropriations Committee is issuing a stern warning to the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program: “If its costs are not brought under control ... the program’s future could be in jeopardy.” The missive is included in the committee’s report on the fiscal 2012 spending bill that it approved Thursday.
For the next four months the FAA can operate without worrying that lawmakers will shutter its operations. After press time Thursday, Senate leaders reached a deal to pass the FAA reauthorization extension that had been held up by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) for what he believes is frivolous spending in the highway bill that was attached to the FAA extension. Along with passage, the extension fended off an amendment that would have reduced the FAA’s authorization to fiscal 2008 levels.
Congress cleared the 22nd extension of FAA’s authorization last week, averting a possible shutdown that loomed while the Senate battled over whether it should adopt a clean extension.
