Prior to taking on her current role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
Italy’s deputy defense minister is warning the U.S. that if Congress opts to pull out of the tri-national Medium Extended Air Defense System (Meads), its closing costs will mount. Italy follows Germany, the other international partner on the tri-country missile defense system, in objecting to plans by lawmakers to cut the president’s $804 million budget request to wrap-up development of the system (Aerospace DAILY, July 15).
While the White House and Congress continue to wrangle over the debt ceiling, the House and Senate now are so at odds over the latest extension to the FAA reauthorization bill proposed by the House, that the top Senator dealing with transportation issues says the extension may lapse.
As of yesterday, the prospects of an agreement on FAA reauthorization are looking grim. Last week, Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.) introduced the 21st extension to the bill, which expires this Friday, along with two changes to the Essential Air Service (EAS) program. He adopted the Senate’s language in part, but tacked on a cut to the subsidy to airports.
