Based in Washington, Jen manages Aviation Week’s worldwide defense, space and security coverage.
Prior to taking on her current role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
A government-issued credential for transportation workers created to enhance port security can be obtained with fake identification, according to the Government Accountability Office. In testimony to the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, a GAO official said that 27% of Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) issued went to applicants with a criminal record.
The Pentagon may have terminated the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter’s alternate F136 engine made by General Electric and Rolls-Royce, but the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee is making sure that the U.S. government keeps what it bought during the program, to allow for its future resurrection. The language appears to be one more step by HASC Chairman Buck McKeon (R-Calif.) to keep the GE engine program alive – even through a period of dormancy.
The Government Accountability Office is expected to detail problems with the Transportation Worker ID Credentialing program today in a hearing before the Senate Transportation Committee.
