He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Lufthansa’s CFO Simone Menne says Europe’s biggest airline currently sees “no softening of the trends,” as “forward bookings indicate further passenger growth.” The statement applies to the carrier’s long-haul business as well as European services, large parts of which were transferred to lower-cost subsidiary Germanwings on July 1.
EADS has sought to be a broad and balanced aerospace group ever since its inception in 2000. That the group is now renamed Airbus—consolidating its weaker businesses—indicates it remains what it was: a commercial aircraft manufacturer with a defense/space and helicopter division.
Airbus has received preliminary European Aviation Safety Agency certification for its runway overrun protection system (ROPS) for the Airbus A320 family, in another step to make the system available across the entire Airbus product range.
