He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
EADS is preparing a major structural overhaul that will lead to realigned divisions and a new name: Airbus. According to several industry sources, the changes may be confirmed at a board of directors meeting scheduled for July 30. The European aerospace group, which will not comment, is going to merge its defense and space divisions—Cassidian and Astrium—into a new entity. The new unit is also going to include Airbus Military, according to some sources.
Lufthansa is reshaping the executive board of its passenger airline division by strengthening the role of key executives. Kay Kratky, currently in charge of flight operations at Lufthansa's main hub in Frankfurt, has been named chief operating officer for the entire airline, taking over responsibility for the Munich hub from Thomas Kluehr, who was named CFO.
FRANKFURT — China’s AVIC International has bought German aircraft engine manufacturer Thielert in a move that further broadens the group’s general aviation portfolio. Thielert’s insolvency administrator confirmed the deal on July 23, saying the company would be relaunched as Technify Motors, with operations remaining in Germany. Neither side disclosed details about the acquisition cost.
