He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
SAS Group has reached agreements with most of its unions during negotiations that went well past its Sunday deadline. The new union deals would give the airline more access to crucial financing and keep SAS out of bankruptcy, but creditors and shareholders have demanded full consent by all unions, which technically still is outstanding.
Virgin Atlantic has been offered all 12 daily slot pairs to be surrendered by British Airways as compensation for the BMI takeover. The U.K’.s second long-haul airline said it will now be able to offer short- and medium-haul services for the first time and focus the use of the slots mainly on Heathrow-Scotland routes.
Following last week’s decision by Qatar Airways to pull out of Cargolux, the airline is facing a search for a new investor when it is already in deep economic trouble.
