He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Nigeria’s aviation ministry has reinstated Dana Air’s operating certificate three months after one of the carrier’s MD-83 crashed on final approach to Lagos Murtala Muhammad International Airport. The ministry says it is satisfied with the airline’s operations following a “rigorous technical, operational and financial audit of the airline.” The ministry added that “Dana Air is free to resume its normal commercial flight operations.”
FRANKFURT — EADS has added two Airbus managers – Chief Operating Officer Günther Butschek and Chief Operating Officer Customers John Leahy – to the company’s executive committee. The appointments represent further integration of Airbus and its parent company, although fully merging the two entities is not foreseen.
U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron, clearly addressing concern that the British government is about to back the construction of a third runway at London Heathrow Airport, has announced a review of the country’s airport capacity that will defer any decision about new construction until after the 2015 general election.
