He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Jeffery Smisek, president and CEO of United Airlines says it is unlikely that the U.S. in the foreseeable future would be willing to drop or even loosen the existing rules on ownership and control.
Austrian Airlines is making final preparations for the transition of its flight operations from the parent company to what used to be its regional affiliate Tyrolean Airways. Tyrolean will operate all of the group’s flights beginning July 1 as part of Austrian’s €220 million ($278 million) cost savings program. The transfer was decided after management failed to reach an agreement with unions over cost cuts for Austrian’s pilots.
What started as routine maintenance for Transaero Airlines turned into an MRO acquisition. The Russian airline had chosen Shannon Repair Services (SRS) to refurbish its aircraft to make them Wifi-enabled, but subsequently decided to invest in the MRO and take it over. The move is giving Transaero access to another in-house maintenance base.
