He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Air France was forced to cancel close to 700 flights on Monday, after pilots, cabin crew and ground staff went on strike. The employees are protesting proposed changes to French labor regulations that would make strikes in the air transport sector more difficult. The cancellations affected about two-thirds of the airline’s Monday schedule, and many of the disruptions were decided at the last moment, leaving thousands of passengers stranded at airports. Air France earlier had said that only one-fifth of its services would be affected.
Air Berlin is set to join the Oneworld alliance on March 20, the airline partnership confirmed last week. The German carrier will fill a significant gap in Oneworld’s route map in central Europe.
Kingfisher Airlines’ bid to join the Oneworld alliance has been put on hold while the carrier works to get its financial house in order. The Indian airline and the alliance agreed Friday that admission should be tabled for now. No new date for possible admission was given.
