He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Airbus is studying ways to increase production of its single-aisle aircraft to as many as 50 aircraft per month, Chief Operating Officer for Customers John Leahy says. Leahy believes the European airframer will soon decide to raise monthly output from the currently planned 42 to 44 and may go even higher. In an interview, Leahy said the 60 units per month Boeing is looking at as part of its longer-term plans are “ridiculous.” Leahy made the comments as part of the release of Airbus’s latest global market forecast.
AviancaTaca is making rapid progress in integration following its 2010 merger. While new processes and management teams are put in place, the airline group is also preparing for its entry into Star Alliance in May 2012.
Air France-KLM’s board of directors as expected, has approved, a split order of Boeing 787s and Airbus A350XWBs in the twin-widebody competition. It is the first major group order by Air France-KLM aimed at satisfying both airlines’ demands and trying to generate savings by placing a single, larger order.
