He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Finnair Cargo, Ilmarinen Mutual Pension Insurance Company and Neff Capital Management are launching Nordic Global Airlines, a Helsinki-based long-haul carrier. Nordic Global is planned to start operations later this year, taking advantage of the growth in global air freight. “This shareholding will provide us with additional, cost-efficient cargo capacity, thus enabling continued growth in the steadily increasing Asian freight markets,” Antero Lahtinen, Finnair’s senior VP-cargo, said.
Just days before his appointment as Austrian Airlines CEO was to become effective, Thierry Antinori told the company’s board of directors that he will not accept the job. Lufthansa issued a statement on Tuesday saying the 49-year old executive had “professional plans outside of the Lufthansa Group.” Peter Malanik and Andreas Bierwirth are continuing their work in jointly leading the airline until a replacement is found, Lufthansa says.
