He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Qatar Airways is in talks to buy another airline, possibly as early as this year, CEO Akbar Al Baker told Aviation Week at the ITB tourism convention in Berlin. He also confirmed his intention to order more Airbus A380s but was critical of Airbus's decision to offer the new engine option for the A320.
Air Baltic CEO Berthold Flick expects intra-European air fares to rise by €40-50 in the short to medium term to cover the massively rising fuel prices. Flick said at the ITB tourism fair in Berlin that fare increases of the scale needed “will have a major effect on air travel.”
EADS CEO Louis Gallois says it would be “good to know for management what shareholders want to do,” referring to the ongoing debate about the future of core shareholders, such as Daimler and Lagardère. The car maker, like Lagardère Group, has signaled that it wants to sell–or at least reduce–its stake. In addition, the German Daedalus banking consortium plans to give back a 7.5% stake in EADS to Daimler by the end of 2012.
