He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will resume flights from Amsterdam to Buenos Aires after a break of 10 years. The carrier plans to introduce three weekly flights at the end of October. The services are operated with Boeing 777-200ERs. Aerolineas Argentinas recently was announced as a new SkyTeam partner and can provide valuable feed for KLM, which is one of the founding members of the alliance.
Munich Airport plans to open a satellite terminal in 2015 that will increase its annual capacity by 11 million passengers. The new pier will be linked to Lufthansa’s Terminal 2 by an automated train system. The pier will feature 52 gates and 27 air bridge positions, more than doubling the current capacity at Terminal 2. Like T2, the new pier will be used by Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partners. Airport operator FMG and Lufthansa share the €650 million ($877 million) investment, with Munich Airport taking on 60%.
Boeing should go for a re-engined 737 instead of an all-new design, Doric Asset Finance Managing Director Mark Lapidus told Aviation Week. “Waiting for a new design until 2020 would give Airbus the opportunity to massively extend its market share [with the Airbus A320NEO] also in the U.S.,” Lapidus believes. Doric Asset Finance specializes in aircraft funds, among others, and has financed several Airbus A380s.
