He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Tokyo aims to become a more attractive gateway for international travelers with the reopening of Haneda Airport to international services. The airport last week officially inaugurated its new international terminal with an initial annual capacity of 7 million passengers. To facilitate up to 30,000 more aircraft movements in the first year, the new D runway also became operational on Oct. 21, albeit several months later than planned.
German leisure carrier Hamburg International filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday and ceased all operations on the same day. Following the filing, Germany’s civil aviation authority LBA withdrew the carrier’s operating license. Hamburg International said it was in talks with potential investors, but was not quick enough to avoid the filing.
EL Al Israel Airlines is in discussions with potential partners about forming an alliance initially centered on Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The airline has been talking to Russian carrier UTAir, Ukrainian airlines Aerosvit and Donbassaaero and Armavia of Armenia about cooperation deals that would start with code sharing, according to El Al Alliance Manager Stanly Morais.
