He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Turkish Airlines predicts it will continue to see strong traffic growth and improved financial results after having reached impressive figures in the first half of 2010. In the six-month period, demand was up by 26.8% as the airline boosted capacity by 19.9%. The load factor also improved by 4.1 points and now stands at 72.1%. Sales increased by 28% to €1.8 billion ($2.3 billion), pushing net profit up 181% to €134 million. However, operating profit fell by 34% to €55 million as the airline was hit by a significant increase in fuel costs.
Lufthansa is introducing twice daily services from its Munich hub to Luxembourg. The new flights will launch on Oct. 31, and will be operated by Lufthansa CityLine Bombardier CRJ-700s. Luxair already has three daily flights from Luxembourg to Munich that are operated under a code-sharing agreement with Lufthansa. The German airline also has a 14.44% stake in Luxair.
Norwegian Air Shuttle took delivery of a new Boeing 737-800 on lease from CIT Aerospace. The aircraft is the fifth 737 CIT has placed with the Norwegian low-fare airline. A sixth aircraft is expected to arrive in September.
