He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
SAS Group has started its search for a new chief executive after CEO Mats Jansson announced his intention to step down before the end of the year. “The time feels right for a new president and CEO to take over and continue to further strengthen SAS's competitiveness and secure its profitable growth,” Jansson says in a statement.
Lufthansa pilots decided to shut down one engine on an Airbus A380 Aug. 6 after they became aware of changing oil pressure data. The incident happened toward the end of a scheduled flight from Tokyo to Frankfurt on approach to the carrier's home base. The engine was replaced and the aircraft is back in service. Lufthansa operates two A380s on the Frankfurt-Tokyo route. The airline will take another two aircraft later this year. Lufthansa’s A380s are equipped with Rolls-Royce engines.
