He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
The cabin interior business is showing signs of recovery after a lull caused by delayed aircraft orders and deliveries. “There are signs of an upturn,” says Bob Lange, Airbus head of cabin interiors marketing. The inflight entertainment (IFE) business, in particular, is strengthening. “This has already been a pretty solid year” in terms of activity, says Alan Pellegrini, Thales vice president for IFE business. Thales, in its first-quarter results posted on May 10, said IFE revenue was up 50% year-on-year with new orders “up significantly.”
Lufthansa’s Airbus A380s are planned to be used for growth of long-haul capacity. The airline will not reduce the 30-strong fleet of Boeing 747-400s as it builds the A380 fleet. The airline took delivery of its first A380 in Hamburg on Wednesday. The aircraft was ferried to the Frankfurt base and welcomed by a big crowd. Lufthansa will phase in four A380s this year and four more in 2011. At the end of 2011, the first of 20 Boeing 747-8s is due. Lufthansa has a total of 15 A380s on firm order.
Turkish Airlines appears to be seriously considering bidding for Star Alliance partner LOT Polish Airlines "I would like to buy LOT, although no final decision has been made," Turkish CEO Temel Kotil told Polish daily newspaper Rzeczpospolita. "I know LOT is undergoing restructuring so one will have to wait for a while. But there is room for consolidation in the region, and I have no intention of letting such an opportunity pass," Kotil said.
