Embraer is considering setting up a final assembly line for its Embraer 170/190 family in China, Executive VP-Airline Market Mauro Kern said. A decision to go ahead with such a project would come within the next year. “In about six months, we will have a clearer view of what we will do,” Kern told The DAILY at the European Regions Airline Association’s annual meeting in Interlaken, Switzerland.

Lufthansa is expected to reveal details about its new venture into inflight Internet connectivity next Monday. The airline has scheduled a news conference together with inflight entertainment specialist Panasonic Avionics. Lufthansa had to discontinue its Internet onboard offering in late 2006 after Boeing canceled the “Connexxion by Boeing” service. The Panasonic service is understood to use part of the Boeing hardware that has remained installed on about 70 of Lufthansa’s long-haul aircraft.

Austrian Airlines is launching a fundamental rework of its network and fleet strategy in an effort to reach an operating profit in 2011 and prepare for future growth. Executive board members Andreas Bierwirth and Peter Malanik said at a Vienna news conference that the airline will no longer focus on niche markets in Eastern Europe, but rather fight for a stronger position in large-volume catchment areas in both Eastern and Western Europe.
