He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Blue 1, SAS and other Star Alliance members are moving into Terminal 1 at Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport. Terminal 1 is the renamed former domestic terminal. The SAS lounge will relocate there in October.
A preliminary report by French stock exchange watchdog AMF proposes huge fines against seven EADS executives for allegedly breaching insider trading rules. The report suggests that former CEO Noel Forgeard has to pay €5.4 million (US$7.6 million) as a fine to the AMF. Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers John Leahy is supposed to pay €3.6 million, former Airbus CFO Andreas Sperl is earmarked for a €700,000 fine and A380 program chief Alain Flourens for €360,000.
Lufthansa and the European Commission are close to an agreement on concessions for the takeover of Austrian Airlines. Lufthansa said earlier today “a resilient agreement with the European Commission” can be reached following nonstop negotiations in the past few days. The company requested an extension of the takeover offer by one month until the end of August. Observers expected the Austrian Takeover Commission to approve the request.
