He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
The European Commission yesterday expressed doubts about the proposed takeover of Austrian Airlines by its partner Lufthansa. The commission stated it has doubts “whether this state aid (as part of the deal) can be declared compatible with the common market” and “whether the price paid reflects the market price for Austrian Airlines at the time it was sold.” The Commission also questions whether “the sale was truly open, transparent and unconditional.” In this regards, Air France-KLM and Ryanair filed complaints.
European travel concern Thomas Cook will take full control of leisure carrier Condor. The company plans to exercise a purchase option for the remaining 24.9% currently held by Lufthansa, it said yesterday.
Christoph Debus, managing director of finance and human resources at German leisure airline Condor, has accepted a job on the executive board of Air Berlin, industry sources tell The DAILY. Debus, 37, is expected to join Air Berlin in the next few weeks, but his role is said to be not yet finally defined.
