He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
British Airways Chairman Martin Broughton warned in an interview that the oneworld alliance could split up if BA’s bilateral deal with American Airlines does not get regulatory approval this year. “The most important deal (for BA) is the American deal,” he told the Daily Telegraph. “It’s worth a lot of money — hundreds of millions — and prevents the break-up of oneworld.” Without American and BA being able to coordinate fares and schedules in the future, “there has to be a big question mark over the future of oneworld,” Broughton believes.
TUIfly, Germany’s third-largest airline, is continuing on its bumpy ride, after CEO Roland Keppler announced his resignation, effective at the end of January. Keppler has accepted an as-yet-undisclosed positionin an industry unrelated to aviation. Parent TUI has not yet decided who will replace Keppler.
Cargolux has introduced a weekly flight to Cairo, Egypt. The airline flies a scheduled Boeing 747-400F service to the Egyptian capital, citing increased demand for consumer goods and oil industry equipment. The service continues to Hong Kong.
