He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Brussels Airlines decided to postpone the launch of its planned new airline in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Managing Director Bernard Gustin said at the Star Alliance Chief Executive Board meeting in Chicago. The DC Air project will only be pursued further once political unrest settles in the country and the danger of an outright war diminishes. Another factor complicating the move is the fact that all of Kongo’s airlines are blacklisted by the European Commission. “We cannot operate a blacklisted airline,” Gustin says.
Brussels Airlines is starting to streamline its narrowbody fleet in the next few weeks by deciding how to replace outgoing Boeing 737 Classics. The airline currently operates 11 737s inherited from Virgin Express, with which it merged in 2004, and four Airbus A319s. “I cannot say whether we will go for Boeing or Airbus, but I would like to make this decision the initial step towards streamlining the fleet,” says Managing Director Bernard Gustin.
