He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Spanish aviation authorities yesterday withdrew the operating license of charter airline Futura. The decision likely means the definite demise of the airline that filed for bankruptcy two weeks ago and halted operations. Since then, Futura failed to attract new investors. The airline rapidly grew to 38 aircraft last year, but had to scale down operations significantly with its finances in deteriorating shape.
Etihad said yesterday it plans to grow to 25 million passengers in 2020. The carrier is on track to carry about 6 million passengers in 2008, after it transported 4 million this year to date. The airline Etihad expects its work force to grow from about 6,000 to 27,000 in the next 12 years. The airline is based in Abu Dhabi is supposed to help build up the Emirates’ tourism and travel infrastructure.
Qantas is looking at placing a follow-up order for more Airbus A380s, according to CEO Geoff Dixon. “We will possibly increase our order with Airbus. We can see real reasons for taking more [A380s],” Dixon said at the delivery ceremony for the airline’s first A380 in Toulouse.
