He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
A consortium of 16 private investors appear ready to inject EUR1billion into a new Alitalia that has previously disposed of its debts and various company units; the plan is to be presented to the Alitalia board on Friday.
Russian carrier S7 Airlines yesterday became the second airline to confirm its interest in buying Austrian Airlines. Taking over Austrian was “attractive with a view to our long-haul activities”, an official said. S7 is competing with Lufthansa for a controlling stake in Austrian. A total of six parties are understood to have requested the sale prospectus from investment bank Merrill Lynch, among them Air France-KLM, although the group has not officially confirmed its intentions.
A thrust reverser has been found deployed on the crashed Spanair MD-82, Spanish daily newspapers El Mundo and El Pais reported today; it was not immediately clear which of the two engines was affected.
