He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Austrian low-fare airline FlyNiki expects to remain profitable this year in spite of soaring fuel prices and a slowing economy. It even has plans to expand its business model next year.
Syrian Arab Airlines may soon place an order for up to 50 Airbus aircraft, Syria’s Deputy Prime Minister Abdallah Dardari said in an interview yesterday. The order is likely to include A320s, A330s, A340s and A350s and would be stretched out over a period of 20 years. The order would come in conjunction with a restructuring of the airline that may also include partial privatization.
Emirates’ first Airbus A380 had to make a diversion to Munich Airport on Sunday. The aircraft, en route from Dubai to New York landed at the German airport because of a medical emergency on board. The aircraft left after three hours on the ground and continued to its destination. Emirates’ first A380 was delivered late last month and is currently used on the New York route.
